King Tribhuvan is a direct descendant of Prithivi Narayan Shah. He is the King of Nepal from 1911 to 1950 and from 1951 to his death in 1955. Its main objective is to put an end to the hegemony of the Rana family has been in power for 150 years. He resigned from his office on 6 November 1950. Five days later, he joined India which has acquired its independence. With the help of Jawaharlal Nehru – the famous Pandit Nehru was one of the leading figures in the struggle for Indian independence – he returned to power at the beginning of 1951. On 16 November 1951, he was able to appoint a prime minister who does not belong to the Rana family: Matrika Prasad Koirala. During the 1950s, a draft constitution was drafted, establishing a representative democracy based on the British model. Tribhuvan died in March 1955 at the Hospital of the Canton of Zurich.

King Tribhuvan and his victorious struggle against the Rana dynasty seem to have left a good memory in Nepal because they gave its name to Kathmandu airport and the largest university in Nepal.

The Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport in Nepal. It is located approximately six kilometers from the center of Kathmandu.

The Tribhuvan University is a public university located in Kirtipur, on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Founded in 1959, Tribhuvan University is the oldest of the twelve universities in Nepal. It hosts nearly 300,000 Nepalese students or foreigners. It is the largest university in Nepal and the ninth largest in the world.
