Physical Environment In Western Development Region Nepal:
Western Development Region is also characterized by geographical diversity. The northern part of this region is covered by the mountain range of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. The Kali Gandaki gorge located between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna is the deepest gorge in the world. The western, central and the eastern parts of this region are irrigated by the Kali, Seti and the Marsyangdi rivers. The world famous lakes like, Fewa, Begnas, Tiicho, etc are also located in this region. The two valleys popularly known as Manang and Mustang are in the northern part of Annapurna mountain range. The northern environment of this region is not suitable for agriculture. The southern part of Annapurna receives sufficient rain. The southern section of Lumbini Zone is plain so it s more fertile.
Inhabitants in Western Development Region Nepal:
The distribution of population in Western Development Region is uneven. The hilly area is thinly populated whereas the Pokhara Valley and the terai section of Lumbini zone are densely populated. People of various castes and ethnic groups like Brahman, chhettri, Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Chhantyal, Dura, etc mainly live in this region. Thakali and Gurung mainly living in the northern part are engaged in trade and tourism. However, agriculture is he main occupation of this region. They grow various crops, Rice, corn, wheat and millet are produced as food crops and sugar and potato are also grown as cash crops. The shape and size of houses also vary depending on the location. The palace of Gorkha and Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha are popular historical sites. Similarly, the temple of Manakamana, and Muktinath are very important religious sites. All these places are in the development region.
Trade and Occupation in Western Development Region Nepal:
There are various big and small hydro electricity projects like Kali Gandaki, Marsyangdi, Middle Marsyangdi in Western Development Region. Cities like Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Butwal are growing as industrial centers. Pokhara, which used to be a small trade centre, has now become one of the biggest trade centers. It is connected by roadways and airways with the capital city Kathmandu, and it has road links with Butwal and Baglung. This region is developing rapidly with the growth of tourism, trade and commerce. Beside this, There is an important academic center, too. Pokhara University and Prithwi Narayan Campus are providing important contribution in the field of higher education.
