Where is Kathmandu? Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal where millions of inhabitants, largest metropolitan city of Nepal. Kathmandu valley is surrounded by hills. Kathmandu has two sister regions they are Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. Lalitpur is 5km to its south and Bhaktapur is 12km to its west and different number of  smaller town. The municipal  area of Kathmandu is 50.67 square kilometres and the population density is 19500 per km2. Kathmandu is named as ‘Ktm’ and’ tri city’. In modern term Kathmandu has been called Jazzmandu or Catmandu. The word “Kathmandu” is actually derived from the word (Kasthamandap) “Kastha” and “Mandap”. In Sanskrit term Kastha means wooden and Mandap means House.


Kathmandu is surrounded by four major hills, they are Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri. Kathmandu has three districts Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu, which have highest population density in the country and accounting about 1/15 of its population. Kathmandu is the central point for the villagers cause every government work is fulfilled here in the Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only the federal democratic capital of Nepal, but also the central region of  headquarters among Madhaymanchal among five development region and constituted by 14 zones. Kathmandu is located in Bagmati zone among three central zones Bagmati, Narayani and Janakpur.


Kathmandu is gateway of tourism cause the international airport lies here so the city  is the nerve center of economy of the country. Kathmandu is rich by its culture, historical places and different types of temples. Newari people are the inhabitant of Kathmandu valley. Nepali is the common language spoken in Kathmandu and English also can understand by the educated people of the city. Kathmandu is mostly famous to know about Newari people’s culture, food and traditions. Kathmandu has 97% literacy rate of the people. Few people of the Kathmandu know the other foreign languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, French, Korean, etc.

Latitpur and Bhaktapur is rich for the tourism, cultural heritage and natural beauty, which are the sister cities of the Kathmandu. The three cities Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur is recognized all the monuments by UNESCO (WORLD HERITAGE SITE).

Due to centralization, the population of the Kathmandu is getting high. In order the make the city real tourism hub the government of Nepal has to make effective strategies like eliminating load-shedding, widen the road, proper dumping plan, supply sufficient water, well managed parking and drainage disposable system, sophisticated hotels and restaurants and so on. Most of the tourists feel the bad about the Kathmandu is irritation by beggars, scavengers and traffic congestion or traffic jam on the road. Despite some bitter fact, there is still many things to lure the pair of eyes. I am sure that Kathmandu is really situated in the amazing landscape in the world.
